Public Notice: Pressurized Container Training

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 13, 2021

Oglethorpe County Fire Rescue (OCFR) will be hosting the Pressurized Container Fire Control training class on September 25th, 2021. This class will be instructed my certified faculty from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC).

OCFR will be preforming the live burn portion of this class in the parking lot of the Oglethorpe County High School on the evening of September 25th, 2021. During that time, there will be several fire apparatuses on scene with their emergency lights activated. We wish to inform the public that this is only a training exercise. Residents passing by may see the lights and a controlled fire.

This course is designed for firefighters and officers who may be called upon to handle emergencies involving pressurized containers. This course presents lifesaving information about fires involving pressurized containers, and how to control or when not to control these fires. Topics include tactics, behavior of pressurized containers exposed to fire, physical properties of common substances stored under pressure and control of LP gas fires. Especially useful are the practical exercises involving LP gas fires in simulated pressure containers or piping.

OCFR would like to thank the Oglethorpe County Board of Education and Oglethorpe County High School for allowing us to use their grounds for this training exercise. OCFR would also like to thank Suburban Propane out of Crawford, Georgia for generously donating their fuel, time, and resources in order for us to have this training.
